UK Air Quality Strategy
Many toxic air pollutants have been specified for control under recent international protocols extending the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution. There are Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Heavy Metals (HMs). The effects of these pollutants range from simple irritants to extreme toxicity. The list on the right does not include all species but presents those of highest concern which currently have emissions inventory information.

One of many Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons PAH is term encompassing a wide range of compounds which consist of two or more fused aromatic rings made entirely from carbon and hydrogen.
